Instructions
When you get there:
- Gate at the road looks locked, it is not. Open gate and use chain around tree to hold gate open. Drive towards the cabin to unload, please do not drive on the grass.
- Walk around back of the cabin where the fire pit area is, there is a small set of steps that lead to the cabin door. Go through the next set of doors using the same key to unlock the door.
- In bathroom on your right, next to the toilet is the main fuse box, you are going to have to turn on each individual fuse. If any fuses are taped, please do not touch them.
- Always leave the main power switch ON (top big switch) which gives power to the garage.
- Bathroom closet above the blue tank are the switches for the hot water heater (left switch) and the water pump (right switch). Turn on the water pump first. DO NOT TURN ON THE HOT WATER HEATER UNTIL THE TANK IS FULL WITH WATER.
- Shed key is on an orange key ring above the cabin donations container on the wall under the clock.
- From the inside you can unlock the slider, remove the pipe in the slider channel.
- Large wooden doors protecting the sliding door can only be opened from the inside. Pull to keep pressure on handle the while unbolting the top bolt, bottom bolt and slide lock.
- TV - it does have a digital antenna that sometimes picks up PBS channels. We also have Google TV streaming in HDMI 1 port, you will need to setup your own WiFi hotspot to use it.
When you go home:
- #1 thing: Make a donation to the "cabin fund". This will help cover the electric bill & cabin maint.
- Please clean up, make it cleaner than it was when you got there. There is a vaccum & shop vac in the closet, handheld Dyson by the stairs, cleaning supplies under both sinks.
- Put anything you used, back where you found it.
- I keep the fridge on all of the time in the summer, leave anything that won't spoil.
- Garbage pickup: Please take any recycle/garbage over to Rick's covered porch (property to North). Monday mornings there is garbage pickup. If you leave it at the road, critters will get into it.
- Feel free to leave any useful items for future visitors such as, plates, plastic silverware, beer, water, etc.
- Don't leave any food or items that animals or insects will want to get into.
- Turn off the hot water heater AND the water pump inside of the bathroom closet
- Turn off every individual fuse switch in the main fuse box to the right of the toilet, except any fuses with tape on them. Leave the main power switch ON.
- Lock all of the cabin doors, shed door and garage door on your way out. Be sure and close/bolt the wood door protecting the glass sliding doors.
- After leaving the driveway please close and "pretend" to lock the gate behind you.
Important things to know
- Open the large wooden doors that are protecting the glass sliding doors. This will give you excellent light and great view of the area. Tip: When you go to bed, close the wooden doors.
- Water hose outside by the water hookup, before starting any fires...please connect it for safety purposes.
- There is plenty of firewood on the property! Dead trees fall weekly, feel free to cut any of the trees on the ground for firewood. There is a an axe in the shed.
- Use the window air conditioning units. There is one upstairs and one downstairs.
- There is a small portable heater if it gets cold. Do not turn on the baseboard eletric heating!
- Always close the doors to prevent bugs from entering the cabin.
- In Necedah they have a Dollar General that has just about everything (take 21 past Kwik Trip, past BP, past Post Office, its on your right), if you need more 'groceries' or better prices you can drive to Mauston all the way on HWY 58 (25 minutes to Festival Foods), Tomah all the way on HWY 21 (35 minutes to Wal-mart).
What not to do:
- Don't burn anything that won't burn, no matter how hot the fire gets...it will not melt metal, aluminum or glass!
- Don't leave any fire unattended, I don't care how small it looks. I already had a forest fire once! Don't make a fire outside of the fire pit.
- Don't grill your food out of range of the hose. I have 2 different types of grills for you to use, use them!
- Wisconsin DNR often drives up Hwy G looking for unattended fires and large fires. They do not hesitate issuing citations during high fire danger times.
